Paula Reichenberg knows exactly where the hype ends and reality begins. As founder and CEO of Neur.on, she developed LexMachina, the first neural translation engine for Swiss legal professionals. She is now bringing this expertise to Noxtua. 

Her journey did not begin in Silicon Valley, but in Swiss courtrooms. After studying law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Fribourg, she passed her bar exam in Zurich and spent two years in the M&A and capital markets law team at one of Switzerland’s largest law firms. In her day-to-day practice, she kept facing a recurring frustration: Legal translations were expensive, time-consuming and often inaccurate. That’show she decided to found Hieronymus, Translations by Lawyers for Lawyers. “Neither engineers nor lawyers can build successful legal tech on their own,” she says. “You need both: a deep understanding of legal requirements and the technical skills to implement them.” 

So she acquired both. After completing an MBA at INSEAD, she took a data science course at EPFL. She then set up LexMachina in close collaboration with HEIA FR, the Fribourg University of Technology and Architecture – one of Switzerland’s leading centres of expertise for AI- and NLP-based document analysis. 

The result: translation software that processes legal documents in Switzerland’s three official languages and English. Several hundred clients are already using the platform, including major law firms, banks and public authorities. The seed round raised 1.6 million Swiss francs, with investors including Ajay Patel (founder of HighQ), James Sprayregen (former partner at Kirkland & Ellis) and the legal publisher Helbing Lichtenhahn. 

Neur.on was founded in 2022 and, just two years later, won the #Swiss Fintech Award in the early-stage start-up category. Bilanz named Paula ‘Digital Shaper 2023’, whilst Le Temps included her among the ‘100 personalities who have shaped French-speaking Switzerland’. Neur.on was acquired in Spring 2026 by the number one legal translation pure player in Europe, Legal230. 

Paula has learned to see through the hype surrounding generative AI. “Many legal professionals have discovered ChatGPT and say: ‘Wait until next year, it’ll be twice as good.’ The reality is: translation AI technology is developing rapidly, but the quality of the results isn’t improving exponentially. Machine translation felt magical when you first tried Google Translate. Today, it’s still impressive, but not significantly better. There’sno getting round the need for human proofreading.” 

Paula has spent years training AI models for legal texts. She knows where the technology adds value and where marketing promises exceed reality. She has seen what investment is required to increase accuracy from 85% to 95%. She is familiar with the regulatory hurdles, data protection requirements and the expectations of law firms. 

 It is precisely this down-to-earth approach that makes her a thought leader in Legal AI. Paula knows exactly which promises and limitations the market presents. She has gained this expertise not from panels and white papers, but from the day-to-day development process, having built, financed and brought Legal AI solutions to market in her role as a practicing lawyer.
