BRUSSELS/BERLIN, June 3rd, 2026 – The European Commission has appointed Dr. Robert Kilian, Chief Legal Officer at Europe’s Legal AI Noxtua and Board Member of the German AI Association, to the Advisory Forum of the AI Office. The Forum provides independent technical expertise and advice on issues relating to European digital regulation, with a particular focus on the AI Act, including standardization and implementation challenges. Within the Forum, the renowned expert on digital regulation will represent the German AI Association and its more than 650 member companies.
To support enforcement of the AI Act, the Commission has in parallel appointed a Panel of leading independent scientific experts. Both bodies advise the AI Office and national authorities on applying the rules, with members serving two-year terms. Key EU agencies will hold permanent seats in the Forum, including the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, the EU Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and European standardization bodies.
"I am pleased to bring the perspective of German and European AI companies into the Advisory Forum. Alongside harmonizing EU digital legislation, we need to put the implementation of existing rules front and centre in order to meaningfully reduce the regulatory burden. Technical standardization in particular holds enormous potential – provided that standards, as operationalized law, are designed in a way that digital companies can actually adopt quickly and cost-effectively," states Dr. Robert Kilian (Board member of the German AI Association & Chief Legal Officer at Noxtua)
The inaugural meeting of the Advisory Forum will take place on 19 June 2026 in Brussels.
